Connecticut State Capitol Tours

The Capitol and Legislative Office Building are open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The buildings are closed weekends and all state and federal holidays.

Guided tours are available by reservation between the hours of 9:15am and 1:15pm. Self-guided tours are available from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Public access currently is limited to the first floor of both buildings. Public entrances are located on the west side of the Capitol and Legislative Office Building located at 300 Capitol Avenue. Please call (860) 240-0222 or email for the updated tour schedule and availability.


The Democracy Game

Through the American Democracy Game, you can put yourself in the shoes of a lawmaker and find out what it is like to deal with public policy issues. Discover the different interests on each side of a public policy issue and learn how negotiation and compromise can lead to a good result.

This online game, recently relaunched, was developed by NCSL for middle school students and includes teacher guides and information.


The publication How A Bill Becomes A Law In Connecticut will be provided to all tour participants. Other brochures, such as: State of Connecticut Sites, Seals, Symbols , will be distributed one per class. These are provided free of charge.

The Grand Restoration (Capitol) – 30 minutes, suitable for all ages.
General Assembly – 62 minutes, suitable for 9th Grade and above.
