CGA Legislative Internship

Program Overview

The CGA Legislative Internship offers a unique opportunity to earn credit through experiential learning. Interns are assigned to individual legislators as support staff. Intern duties may include bill analysis and tracking; research; writing testimonies, social media or photography and video; liaison work and constituent casework. Interns gain invaluable, behind-the-scenes insight into the legislator’s roles, politics and the policy making process.

The Program includes job training, academic projects, legislative research, career development and field trips. Interns attend a mandatory two-day orientation followed by legislative research, IT training, career development seminars on resume writing, interviewing, goal setting and networking. Interns lead and participate in committees to develop Mock Session, forums and social events. Interns attend field trips to correctional facilities, the State Supreme Court and other organizations and events that provide context for local and state policy issues.

The Program is offered in the Spring academic semester to correspond with the Connecticut General Assembly’s Legislative Session
