DESCRIPTION:FEATURING:\nDr. Fiona Vernal\, UConn History Department \nFor three generations\, the Saunders family operated a successful and innovative tailor business in the city of Hartford\, eventually establishing a reputation as Black merchant tailors with deep ties in Hartford’s Black and white communities. Their network stretched from Connecticut\, Massachusetts\, and New York to Barbados and France. Building upon Connecticut State Community College Capital’s signature Hartford Heritage Project\, the first place-based curriculum at a Connecticut college or university\, underscores the importance of Hartford’s history and rich cultural resources. The series includes four lectures on Thursday evenings at Connecticut’s Old State House and a walking tour on Saturday\, October 12. \nThe 2024 Hartford History Lecture series is supported by funding through CT Humanities in alignment with the America 250 | CT Commission.
