SUMMARY:Two Lights for Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Bring non-perishable food items to our food drive and admission is HALF-PRICE!\nConnecticut’s Old State House and the Ruth Wyllys Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will participate in Two Lights for Tomorrow\, a national initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America on April 18-19\, 1775. To commemorate the anniversary\, Connecticut’s Old State House will host a food drive to benefit Connecticut Foodshare on Saturday\, April 19th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission will be half-price for anyone donating non-perishable food items. \nVisit Connecticut’s Old State House\nCome for a guided or self-guided tour of the historic site that served at the state capitol from 1796 to 1878 and Hartford City Hall from 1878-1915. Tours are designed to engage adults and children alike and include Rev. Joseph Steward’s Collection of Curiosities next to the historic Senate Chambers and House of Representatives. \nConnecticut’s Contribution to the Revolutionary War\nConnecticut played a significant role in the American Revolution by providing Washington’s army with food\, clothing\, and equipment\, earning the colony its moniker the “Provision State“. Two Lights for Tomorrow pays homage to Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride and serves as a modern-day call to celebrate working together for a better tomorrow. Two lights refer to the two lanterns placed in the steeple of Old North Church in Boston to alert Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty about which route the British troops were taking. One lit lantern signaled the British would march in by land. Two lit lanterns warned the troops were crossing via the Charles River. Hence\, the famous line “one if by land\, two if by sea” from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem Paul Revere’s Ride.      \nPlan Your Visit\nConnecticut’s Old State House is at 800 Main Street\, steps away from shopping\, restaurants\, and entertainment. Metered street parking is available. Garage parking is available for $5 at State House Square Garage\, located at 55 Market Street. Please present your parking ticket to the museum’s Visitor Services desk for validation. \nConnecticut’s Old State House is mobility friendly with a ramp on the West side entrance and elevator access to all floors.
