This week-long celebration unites students, educators, and other leaders across the country to energize the movement for civic education.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of this important week, Governor Ned Lamont has issued a proclamation recognizing March 10th-14th as Civic Learning Week in Connecticut. The proclamation states, \u201cConnecticut will continue to commit to the importance of civic learning by providing elementary and secondary school students with positive and engaging civic learning opportunities and engaging the public to promote awareness.\u201d Governor Lamont\u2019s Civic Learning Week proclamation and a special citation from Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas will be displayed at Connecticut\u2019s Old State House (800 Main Street, Hartford) from Tuesday, March 11th-Saturday, March 15th from 12:00pm-5:00pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CivxNow, a national cross-partisan civic education coalition created by iCivics, leads <a href=\"http:\/\/civiclearningweek.org\">national Civic Learning Week<\/a>. As a state affiliate of CivxNow, the Connecticut Democracy Center is leading efforts in Connecticut.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany Connecticut organizations provide quality civic education opportunities for educators and students,\u201d said Sally Whipple, Executive Director of the Connecticut Democracy Center at Connecticut\u2019s Old State House. \u201cCivic Learning Week gives us a chance to promote those programs, help schools engage with them, and remind people of the value of strong civic education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Connecticut Democracy Center and its partners will celebrate Civic Learning Week with a variety of civics programming and resources, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Free classroom resources from a variety of organizations <\/strong>including Red White &amp; Blue Schools, the Office of the Secretary of the State, the State Department of Education, Capitol Information &amp; Tours, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, Connecticut State Library, Museum of Connecticut History, Connecticut Judicial Branch, World Affairs Council, CT Humanities, Generation Citizen, and iCivics at ctdemocracycenter.org\/civic-learning-week.\u00a0<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A civics-themed<strong> guided tour of Connecticut\u2019s Old State House<\/strong> offered daily with paid admission from Tuesday, March 11th-Saturday, March 15th at 2pm. Self-guided tours are also available with paid admission and include civics facts throughout the museum. Visitor and group tour information is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctoldstatehouse.org\">ctoldstatehouse.org<\/a>.<br>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Civics exhibits at Connecticut\u2019s Old State House<\/strong> including \u201cWho Can Vote? A Brief History of Voting Rights in the United States\u201d created by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, available with paid admission Tuesday, March 11th-Saturday, March 15th from 12:00pm-5:00pm. Visitor and group tour information is available at ctoldstatehouse.org.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A free <strong>Red, White &amp; Blue Schools informational webinar<\/strong> for K-12 educators on Tuesday, March 11th at 3:45pm. Educators, schools, and districts have until April 1st to apply for designation as a <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.cga.ct.gov\/osh\/home\/rwbschools\/\">Red, White, &amp; Blue School<\/a> or District for providing exemplary civic education to their students.\u00a0<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Future of Democracy with the Ambassador of Sweden<\/strong>, a conversation hosted by the World Affairs Council on Tuesday, March 11th at 5:00pm at CT Public Broadcasting. Detailed information is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/ctwac.org\/event\/ambassador-of-sweden\">ctwac.org\/event\/ambassador-of-sweden<\/a>.\u00a0<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Connecticut Democracy Center Awards, <\/strong>a ticketed event honoring Connecticut community, business, and philanthropic leaders committed to strengthening democracy through acts of citizenship, service, and community engagement on Thursday, March 13th at Connecticut\u2019s Old State House.
