Leverett Holden who served in the CT 29th Connecticut Regiment Volunteer Infantry (Colored). Probably born in Vernon, CT, he worked in Hartford for a time. He moved to Avon before the Civil War and became a freedom seeker. The presentation uses primary and secondary documents to illustrate Holden\u2019s life and explains the three \u201cfirsts\u201d that make his story special.
