Stamford Legislator had served in CT House of Representatives since 2009
The Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC) pridefully congratulates Patricia Billie Miller on her special election run and win for Senate in the state’s 27th district representing the southern sections of Darien and Stamford.
Our dear sister had been serving Stamford’s 145th district as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives since 2009 before being tapped to fill the seat previously held by Carlo Leone.
It shouldn’t be lost on anyone that when it comes to the seat, sure, Pat may be following in the footsteps of big names such as current U.S. Senator Dick Blumenthal and George Jepsen but on a cool, yet sunny afternoon on the South steps of the Capitol in Hartford, we watched our sister set ablaze her own trail. When Pat was sworn in by Secretary of State Denise Merrill, she became the first woman elected to the Senate from Stamford as well as the first person of color – and it happened on March 8, 2021 in which we also celebrated International Women’s Day.
Pat joins Marilyn Moore (D-Bridgeport/Monroe/Trumbull) as the only two women of color in the Connecticut State Senate.
The BPRC could not be prouder of this accomplishment. We’re also confident Pat will continue to be what she’s always been, a person for the people and a voice for the voiceless.
In the House, Pat served as Assistant Majority Leader and House Chair of the Bonding Subcommittee. She also served as a member of the Education Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee.
In the Senate, she will continue to serve on the Education Committee and will also be a member of the Commerce and Veterans Committees and will serve as the Chair of the Aging Committee and Vice Chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.
Once again, the BPRC would like to congratulate the newest member of the Senate, our sister, Patricia Billie Miller.
