BPRC Condemns Insurrection in Washington, D.C.

Caucus calls attempt to overturn election unpatriotic

HARTFORD – The Black and Puerto Rican Caucus (BPRC) issued a statement Thursday strongly condemning the insurrection of riot mobs that descended on the nation’s capital on Wednesday.

Scores of belligerent groups trashed the capitol to halt the certifying of electoral votes confirming Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.

Thankfully, congress did its job and affirmed the results last night.

The scenes from Washington captured live on national television will be seared in our minds. Peaceful protests have always been a part of democracy but what we witnessed on Wednesday wasn’t democracy. It was an attack on democracy, our institutions and the constitution as well. What we witnessed was an unpatriotic attempt to overturn a legitimately held election.

We vote and hope our candidate wins but we must accept the results. By all accounts, the November 3, 2020 election was one of the most secure and legitimate elections in our nation’s history.

The BPRC supports peaceful protests and is also calling for a necessary peaceful transition of power.
