Sexual Harassment Prevention

Sexual Harassment is illegal and is prohibited by the Connecticut Discriminatory Employment Practices Act (Section 46a-60(a)(8) of the Connecticut General Statutes) and Title VII of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 United States Code Section 2000e Et. Seq.). But what one person may consider offensive may be interpreted very differently by someone else. This two-hour workshop helps employees navigate the sometimes challenging “gray areas” of sexual harassment and provides concrete information on how to discourage, report, and prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

During this program, we will:

  • Discuss acceptable workplace behavior.
  • Review the sexual harassment policy.
  • Define the two forms of sexual harassment.
  • Determine what employees and managers can do to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
  • Remind participants how and where to report complaints of inappropriate conduct.
  • Outline a manager’s responsibilities regarding the topic.
  • Encourage questions and discussions in a comfortable environment.

This training is mandatory for all CGA employees and legislators.  New staff members and new legislators should complete their first CGA Sexual Harassment Prevention training through the CGA and may enroll below.  This training is required to be repeated every two years, per the CGA Handbook.  Those who are looking to update their training may either take the live class again or take the CHRO online training and forward their certificate to SHP@cga.ct.gov.  Please contact Molly.McAllister@cga.ct.gov with questions.
