The Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity in collaboration with Welcome 2 Reality, LLC. Presented: “Dear Black Male.”
Anthony Gay and Marcus Stallworth from Welcome 2 Reality, LLC. presents a modified version of the “Dear Black Male Series.” This multiple session series is condensed into a one, 2-hour presentation. The presentation addresses:
- Historical timeline of systemic oppression and racism in America.
- Impact of mass incarceration and how it impacts the family dynamics.
- Stereotypes within media that influence actions and behaviors.
- Challenges within systems regarding engagement with People of Color.
- Factors that contribute to resistance to trusting therapist, state agencies and community providers.
This presentation provides resources for those working with Men of Color who may be experiencing challenges and provides strategies to ensure that support and the resources to do so are available.
The Commission also hosted a follow up moderated panel discussion of “Dear Black Male.” Panelists included: The Honorable Chief Family Support Magistrate, Michael L. Ferguson; State Representative, Geraldo Reyes; State Representative Robyn Porter; Educator, Leonard Epps; Counselor, William Fothergill; Minister, Isaiah McCorkle and Founder of Formerly Inc., Daryl McGraw.
