Denise Drummond is a dedicated leader and advocate, currently serving as the driving force behind the African American Policy Division for the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity. Denise plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and communication between elected officials, policymakers, and community stakeholders. Her primary focus is on legislative initiatives designed to empower and improve the lives of African American residents throughout the state.
With a passion for community engagement and awareness, Denise orchestrates a wide range of activities, including panel discussions, focus groups, workshops, forums, and a New England regional conference. These events serve as platforms for educating local communities about critical issues and offering legislators valuable insights into the challenges facing their districts. Moreover, Denise takes pride in curating and hosting cultural events at the state Capitol, enriching the cultural fabric of Connecticut.
Before assuming her current role, Denise held key positions within the government sector. She served as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of the African American Affairs Commission, managing administrative functions and supporting the commission’s mission. Furthermore, she served as a Public Information Officer for the Commission on Equity and Opportunity, excelling in agency communications, legislative engagement, and community outreach.
Denise’s dedication to community service extends beyond her professional life. She generously donates her time and expertise as a member of the Board of Directors for Disability Rights Connecticut (DRCT), serves on the Connecticut Fatherhood Initiative, and the LGBTQ+ Health and Human Services Network.
