The Statue Of Justice

The “Statue of Justice” is a wooden statue, painted with gilt, or gold paint. A familiar symbol on courthouses, she bears the standard symbols of justice: the sword, blindfold, and scales.

Justice was placed on top of the building’s clock tower in 1827. 149 years later, the statue was brought inside to prevent further damage and replaced with a fiberglass copy.

Justice reminds visitors that this building served as a courthouse, as well as a state house.
