The alliance led to the pivotal victory atYorktown, New York where the combined forces, including the French fleet andarmy, forced the surrender of British General Cornwallis, ending the RevolutionaryWar. 

TheFirst Company Governor’s Foot Guard, formed in 1771, is the oldest continuouslyserving military organization in the United States with an unbroken lineage.The First Company Foot Guard was created to serve and protect the governor inhis travels between New Haven and Hartford.
